Welcome to Shelleys Kennels - Impotant Update

12th Oct 2018 - This is a short note by way of a 'heads up' to advise that the License Conditions for kennels has recently been substantially upgraded. The Local Authority are training additional staff simply to police the changes. We are told that license fees will increase "dramatically" but we do not have any further information as of yet.

We always strive to offer the best service and facilities to our customers but there will be building costs to incur for alterations and overall the impact will not be minor.

We will try to absorb whatever costs we can but boarding fees have not increased for 2 years now and it is inevitable they will do so from probably 1st Jan 2019.

As soon as we have enough information to calculate our new charges, we will update this note but think it only correct to make you aware of the situation at this stage.

Thank you for your support.

Shelley & Jeff

6th Nov 2018 - A further update on Kennels Licensing Laws for 2019.

Whilst there is still some confusion/debate about certain aspects of the new legislation, what is clear is that next year we will be faced with substantially increased overheads and less kennels.

The alternatives are quite stark. We either change our daily rates to reflect the time and effort that we put into the business and hopefully make a smal profit or the kennels runs at a loss and will eventually close.

Our charges have not increased for 2 years but we are now facing the prospect of a large rise to cover external factors.

We recognise that this will impact heavily upon our customers. Some will simply not be able to afford a large fee increase and will have to seek alternative arrangements. All we can say is that we have valued your support and loyalty over many years and it has been a pleasure and a privilege to care for your dogs who we have come to know and love.

The decision regarding our new rates has not been taken lightly but the impact of this legislation will affect all in the kenneling/day care/home boarding areas and non-compliance is simply not an option.

If you wish to discuss any aspect of this with us then please ring.

13th Nov 2018 -
A further update now we are getting into the nitty gritty of all this.
The new legislation imposes specific responsibilities on kennels and the like in relation to areas you would expect eg. Size of kennels/heating/lighting/drainage/waste disposal/ratio of staff to dogs/experience and qualification of staff/health and safety matters/containment of disease etc etc.
It also contains clear guide lines and protocols covering areas of medication/exercise routines/off-site activities/group play etc.
All of this has to be recorded and signed off by us on each and every occasion with the information being available to the licensing authority should they ever ask for it.
In the past, our relation has been pretty relaxed but going forward has to be more structured.
The admin work for us is going to be considerable and we will be reliant on you giving us far more detail than we currently ask for.
On the website, we will attach draft copies of the type of form you have to complete after the 1/1/2019.
We have broken this down into 5 distinct areas. General information, dog details, veterinary and insurance details, group exercise authority and finally, the Terms and Conditions under which we operate.
Believe it or not, we have tried to keep this information to a minimum with us taking on the lions share!
However, these forms (or something very similar) are what you need to complete prior to your dogs booking. We would strongly recommend you fill these in at home, where you will have the majority of information at your fingertips. Otherwise, we anticipate delays in our office which will hold you up.
We believe next year we’ll see a huge issue of supply and demand for kennelling and home boarding. We already know of a number of kennels that are/have closed and this will put even more pressure than ever before on capacity.
If you know what dates you wish to book for 2019, we strongly recommend that you do so now as some dates in July & August are already 2/3rds full. We will be operating on a reduced kennel basis ourselves next year and any bookings that are taken we will expect you to honour these.
Sorry if all of this sounds a little harsh but there is absolutely no point in trying to sugar coat it.

Many Thanks

Shelley & Jeff
